Recap 10/28/19

Today, we started off with moving picture. The film strip was the piece of technology used to create the first motion picture. When watching the first moving image, I found the video to be very interesting. I was not expecting a physical person playing music, I thought that there would be music in the background, not in the actual moving images. We then talked about the kinetoscope . The kinetoscope is very important to film because it was how the audience was able to view the short loop of film. Stores would line up these machines to allow multiple people to view the films one at a time. The public poured in to use these devices when they were first open. When watching the first science fiction film, I thought it was very cute. It also shows how much science fiction has changed in the given years. For example, nowadays, science fiction is still fake but is more realistic than the films from the past. However, I do think that the music used in the ...

Photography and Dada Period 10/21/19 Recap

Photography started with the method of Camera Obscura. Not only is the picture projected on the wall, but it is also projected with depth. The issue with Camera Obscura is that it is not permanent. This was how photography was introduced. The first print took eight hours to create. No people were in it. The Daguerrotype came next, and only took 15 minutes to create. It was very detail and used chemicals, such as mercury vapor, to create the image. If the images contained people, there were rules that the people could not move, smile, or sneeze. We then moved to the calotype painting. This is when an object is placed on a piece of paper in the sun. After some time, the image of the object was made on the paper due to the use of sensitized paper. Next, we studied the cyanotype process. I found this process to be very interesting because I liked how the paper was first wet, but the paper was then able to print an image in as little as ten minutes. To capture phot...

Broadway

The first Broadway show that I enjoyed watching was Meet Me at St. Louis. I enjoyed this excerpt of the Broadway because I felt that the show brought a lot of energy to the stage which then allows the crowd to feel a sense of excitement. In addition, the performers were all in synch which added another sense of preparation and professional which is always great to have when you have civilians paying money to see the show that the performers are about to preform.        The second Broadway show that I found appealing was The Leading Ladies. I particularly enjoyed the video on this Broadway because I found the performers voice very peaceful and soothing. Also, I found that the music accompanying the singing was very appropriate and accompanied the lyrics very appropriately. This is important in Broadway because it will set the right tone and stage for the audience who is watching the Broadway being preformed.       The last B...

Recap 10/7/19

Today, we started class by listening to blues. We listened to Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Janis Joplin, and Mary Blige. We then listened to Soul music. We listened to Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown. Personally, I prefer blues over soul. I think that blues is actual music while soul was just a lot of yelling with music in the background. In addition, I love the guitar in blues.          We then moved to technology. First, we talked about decontextualization. Decontextualization is changing the use of an object to do something else. I think this form of art is very interesting because it evokes creative thinking in a individual. We watched a documentary on Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo had a very creative mind. He wanted his art to interact with its audience when people went to look at his work. I personally enjoy Leonardo's inventions, for example, the bridge, over paintings, but I appreciate both forms of art very m...
