Recap 10/28/19

Today, we started off with moving picture. The film strip was the piece of technology used to create the first motion picture. When watching the first moving image, I found the video to be very interesting. I was not expecting a physical person playing music, I thought that there would be music in the background, not in the actual moving images. We then talked about the kinetoscope . The kinetoscope is very important to film because it was how the audience was able to view the short loop of film. Stores would line up these machines to allow multiple people to view the films one at a time. The public poured in to use these devices when they were first open. When watching the first science fiction film, I thought it was very cute. It also shows how much science fiction has changed in the given years. For example, nowadays, science fiction is still fake but is more realistic than the films from the past. However, I do think that the music used in the first science fiction film accompanied the film well and gave the video an extra effect.
The television then came next. This started sampling because we could now sample reality by looking at pixels and making sure each pixel is used how the creator thinks it should be viewed. However, television did have its tough beginnings. At first, the image was very blurry and smudged. But with the introduction of the electronic television, the image became much clearer. The magnet tv was then created which was very interesting to see how a magnet could distort an image on a tv. Then, the telegraph came into play. The telegraph was very interesting because it used a punch card to create a grid. Lastly, we talked about a drum scan. The drum scan was cool to see because a drum scan allows for more detail in the image, such as shading.
After television, we dug into Ascii code. Ascii code is used for information interchange. Numbers are used to represent text. This is used because Ascii is used in computer science, emails, and programming.
