Recap 9/16/19

First we traveled to the Hagia Sophia. The size and design was very extravagant which allowed many dictators to rule their religion to the region. The architecture and design was very elaborate given its rich history. Next, we traveled to Turkey for the whirling dervishes. These performers only focus about Allah, which is the name of God, and represent the fact that we share what Allah gave to the Earth. Next was the Gothic Cathedral. There was numerous stained glass windows and a rose window so the people attending the service could enjoy the natural sunlight. Both entertainment and business took place there. However, only the wealthy could attend. Next, we attended the Notre Dame. Even though that the cathedral may be old it still preaches its purpose to put people in better shape than they arrived. It has great, grand windows, but water makes the structure weaker, so the gargoyles spit the water out. The novel, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, saved the church from being torn down. We then traveled to St. Peter's Basilica. Not only is this St. Peter's tomb but also 92 popes where buried here. There is a lot of gold statues for people to enjoy their time while they are there. Lastly, we traveled to Barcelona for the Sagrada Familia. This cathedral is still not done yet, but should be done by 2028. There are two different types of architecture that blend together. The inside of the church appears to be a forest because a forest is where the architect believed where people could find the closest relationship to God.

My favorite structure was the Sagrada Familia. The reason why it was my favorite was because it was the most modern. I like modern architecture over past techniques, so I really liked how the inside looked like a forest and the colors flowed in through the stained glass.
