Animation Madama Butterfly 9/23/19
The animation of Madama Butterfly was quite different than the real opera. Pinkerton left Madama Butterfly to be a cruise ship captain. While he was away, Pinkerton had a little boy and the two waited for Pinkerton to come back. In the animation, Pinkerton did come back, but he took the little boy and left. This devastated Madama Butterfly and caused her to break down emotionally and kill herself. This is in contrast to the real opera because in the real opera, Pinkerton did not come back. Once Madama Butterfly realized that Pinkerton wasn't coming back, she killed herself while her son was by her side blindfolded. In terms of personal preference, I liked the opera better because it was more graphic. When Madama Butterfly tore herself apart, the viewer had a clear connection to her emotions. As the viewer, I physically could feel Madama Butterfly's emotion, sadness, and devastation. Lastly, I also liked the animation better because it was accompanied by good music that correlated to the scenes. This made the story more suspenseful and was able to create a deeper connection to the viewer by spreading emotions through the characters to the viewer.
